In view of the recently rapid spread of the novel coronavirus epidemic, most employers would ask their employees to take no paid leave or work from home. However, the employers cannot compel their employees to do so unless their employees consent. Both employers and employees should follow the best practice to document their mutual understanding or agreement in writing to such variation to the terms and conditions of their employment contract to avoid any ambiguity or dispute in future.
